Meet My Teachers - Healing Light Energy

I am currently studying under Reverend Rosalyn Bruyere, author of “Wheels of Light” and founder and director of the Healing Light Center Church in Sierra Madre, California. As one of the leading practitioners of laying-on-of-hands healing, Rev. Bruyere has been instrumental in critical research conducted at UCLA in California, the Menninger Clinic in Houston, Texas, and Kennedy Krieger in Baltimore, Maryland. Rev. Bruyere is dedicated to bridging the gap between alternative and contemporary health measures. Her ability to energetically transform tissue at a cellular level has brought her world wide attention. Rev. Bruyere teaches around the world encouraging compassionate healing and empowerment of the individual, believing as we each heal, we can be of greater assistance in the healing of the world. Reiki Healing

  • Reiki never guarantees healing. However, Reiki healing session is miraculous despite the doubts of those trapped in the physical world. Another strength of Reiki is that it does not require “faith.” Reiki healing is not some abstract idea and can be experienced first-hand by anyone.
  • A Reiki healing will always do good and can never be used for harm. Reiki energy has an innate intellect and always works for the greater good of the recipient of the Reiki healing energy.
  • Some people wonder what a Reiki healing feels like. Recipients report warm sensations and also tingling during the Reiki healing session. Some people report many combinations of feeling more vibrant, relaxed and refreshed after a session. Reiki healing sessions can also bring about sensations of comfort and peacefulness.
  • A Reiki healing session usually lasts about an hour and is often performed on a massage table or massage chair. A short session can also be done with the recipient sitting in a chair or in a relaxed positions and will often last around twenty minutes. Some practitioners average 90 minutes or more per session. Takata Sensei is reported to have given very long sessions, some lasting 2 to 3 or more hours. From what I have seen, if Reiki finishes healing one part of the body, it just moves on to another part. And if there is no major dis-ease in the body for the Reiki energy heal, the energy will still flood the whole body and begin working on etheric or higher layers of the body’s aura. Anyone can benefit from a Reiki healing whether they are suffering from a an illness or not.
  • A Reiki healing session is done fully-clothed, however, loose-fitting or comfortable clothing is recommended. There is never a need to undress or disrobe when receiving a Reiki session and a Reiki session will never involve any direct touching of "private" areas on the body. Reiki can even be done through a cast or from a distance if the recipient has difficulties with human touch, such as recent burn victims or sexual abuse survivors. Sometimes it is helpful to remove things that constrict the body such as, neck ties, chokers, bracelets, shoes or rings if any of them are tight fitting or uncomfortable. Some people don’t like removing their wedding ring or other piece of jewelry and that's okay. Remember to always do what makes you feel comfortable. Never remove anything that makes you feel less comfortable.
  • A Reiki healing session must always have the full consent of the recipient and the parent or guardian when working with children. There are times when consent is not available, like when working with people who are in comas or are otherwise unavailable for direct communication. In these cases the Reiki practitioner must use their own inner guidance to determine whether the recipient is willing to accept the Reiki healing energy.
  • Anyone can receive a Reiki healing. The cost of a session is often similar to the cost of a massage session of similar duration. If fact, at some high end Spas, Reiki is offered among the several modalities provided, e.g. Shiatsu acupressure, Swedish massage, Thai massage. etc..
  • Reiki healing can also be obtained for free in some cases. Many Reiki schools or organizations provide distant Reiki sessions for small donations or for free and set-up the sessions like “prayer request lines.”

What Is Reiki?

  • Reiki, (ray-kee) is a complete, holistic and natural healing technique. Similar to laying of hands, Reiki uses a sequence of hand positions on or over the body’s major energy centers, also referred to as chakras, in order to balance and enhance energy in the human body. The balance and increased energy Reiki provides allows the body to naturally heal.
  • Reiki was founded around the end of the 18th century by Mikau Usui of Japan or Usui Sensei as he is known by his students. Anyone who practices Reiki can trace their teaching lineage to Usui sensei. The very first Reiki group which sprouted in Japan from Usui sensei (Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai) is still in existence today and is reported to be currently headed by Masayoshi Kondo.
  • Reiki can be interpreted to mean universal energy, however, that’s the generally accepted meaning of the word in context, but not it’s direct translation. When broken down, rei itself has several meanings and translations. It is often translated as universal, but it’s direct translation or meaning is “ghost” or “spirit.” Rei is also translated as “universe” or “universal.” The source of Reiki energy comes from the life-force energy of all living things or the universe. And yet another translation is “God mind” or “God consciousness”. Reiki energy has an innate intellect which is also connected to God. So really, the root ideas of God-spirit-mind-universal are all very appropriate. Ki is much simpler as it is the same as the Chinese equivalent “chi” which many people have at least some knowledge of.
  • While giving or receiving Reiki can be a very spiritual experience, Reiki is NOT a religion. In fact, belief in God is not even necessary for Reiki to work. Reiki teachers and practitioners are represented by followers of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Atheism, Taoism, Hinduism, and I’m sure many others. Religious and non-religious people alike have found Reiki’s ideals to be congruent with their own beliefs and values.
  • Reiki, like many other holistic and complimentary healing techniques, is not only a complete and effective method of treatment, it can also compliment and enhance any other type of treatment from allopathic medicine (surgery, medication, etc.) to holistic treatments (acupuncture, chiropractic, reflexology, herbs, etc.).
  • Reiki energy is always positive can never be used for harm or anything negative.
  • Reiki energy will always work towards the highest good of the person.
  • Reiki’s use and combination of hand positions are similar to healing techniques found in Chinese, Russian, Hawaiian, Native American, Mayan and ancient Egyptian cultures.
  • Reiki is most often administered by laying hands on or over the body but can also be given through distant or absentee sessions and also through other techniques utilizing feet, eyes and breath.
  • Reiki aids in stress-reduction, relaxation and enables the body to increase the speed and completeness of healing.
